Attempting to settle on a look for Helene. She's quite younger than she is in the main story here, nineteen and twenty-four respectively. Still working out how she looks in the main storyline; I think her eyes would be shiny and black like a beetle's carapace, but other than this I have no real idea. I'm still trying to get a grasp on her face, so I'm not even bothering to get her expressions and personality down yet, but I'm getting there. Her lips are still a little too big when I draw them so far. Her mouth, as Nina's is, is distinctive, but also very difficult.

Charcoal sticks are the best medium of all media. It's so easy to get super contrasty pictures with charcoal. It sheds soot all over my hands while I draw, but, as nobody seems to get, that's the best part. Makes me feel like I've accomplished something nearly as much as the finished pictures do. <3

Worked like a charm!

I love the pictures--the first one reminds me of a 1960s Twiggy, somehow, if she was darker and edgier, and that second one has so much expression in the eyes. Gorgeous.
